In 1956, the then President Juscelino Kubitschek started the works to build the new Federal Capital. Thousands of workers, hailing from everywhere in the Country, concentrated in the region, building not only the city that would become the center of power in the Country, but also giving shape to the lands that today are known as Distrito Federal. Brasília, capital of Distrito Federal and the Country, was born from the urban planning project done by Lúcio Costa and is a must see destination for tourists. For its architectural beauty, Brasília was granted heritage status in 1987, as Cultural and Historic Patrimony of Humanity, being the only city created in the 20th century to receive this denomination.
