Link between the Brazilian Amazon and Mid-West, Rondonia developed its tourist and economic potential since 1980, when became State and was no longer a territory. The development of agriculture and coffee production –the state’s main economic activities- began with the implementation of the Project Norwest Center, carried out by the Federal Government, which promoted the asphalt paving of the highway Porto Velho-Cuiabá attracting migrations from the south and mid-south of the country.
